Buy an island

It is believed that only very rich people can own islands, but in fact, a piece of paradise may not cost that much.

Some people are happy to buy a car or an expensive watch. But they don't even realize that with the same money they can buy an island for themselves.
Toronto-based marketing firm Private Islands lists about 500 of the world's islands worth less than 50,000 $ and more than 100 million $. Buyers from the U.S., Canada and the U.K. occupy about 80% of the market. "Even before the recession, many islands were priced at what we call Coca-Cola bottle prices," said CEO Chris Crolow.
The Bahamas' declining prices have sparked increased interest from those who like to have their own property. "People like that are looking to have their own state so they can put up a flag and say - this is my own little country," Crolow added.
Celebrities have long joined the ranks of island owners, including Marlon Brando, Nicolas Cage and Johnny Depp.
