The British can't cope with debt
7 in 10 Britons owe money to banks or credit card companies
Statistics show that one in ten Britons turn to gambling or the lottery in a desperate attempt to ease the burden of being broke. According to the Co-operative Bank, half of all UK homeowners will have increased debt this year, and most citizens, due to overspending at Christmas, owe banks £325 more than they did three months ago. The new figures show that the current financial difficulties are so great that they are being compared to the Great Depression.
Gas and electricity prices have increased by a quarter in one year, while gasoline prices have risen by 26 percent over the past two years. Beef mince and tomato sauce have gone up by a third this year, carrots and cucumbers by 20%. To solve their problems, one in twenty Britons has accumulated so much debt that they have had to take out loans at 400%.
