Dmitry Rybolovlev is a pioneer in the chemical business
Dmitry Rybolovlev is chairman of the board of directors of Belarusian Potash Company (BPC) and Uralkali. With a fortune of $ 8.5 billion is in 12th place in the ranking of Russian billionaires in 2010 by the magazine "Finance". The first Russian oligarch who made his fortune in the chemical industry, he is rightly considered a pioneer of this business.
Dmitry Rybolovlev was born on November 22, 1966 in Perm in a family of doctors. Deciding to follow in his parents' footsteps, the future businessman entered the Perm Medical Institute. From his second course Rybolovlev began to work as a part-time attendant in the cardiac intensive care unit and later as a nurse. After receiving his diploma with honors in 1990, he worked for some time more as a doctor in the same intensive care unit.
Rybolovlev got married quite early, in his third year at the institute, and soon the couple had a child. Dmitry continued to work in the intensive care unit as a doctor-intern. The family lacked money catastrophically. It was this fact, according to Rybolovlev's confession, that caused him to enter the business.
The businessman's first small business was "Magnetics.. The firm was naturally involved in medicine. Dmitry Rybolovlev's father independently developed an innovative method of treatment: exposure to a magnetic field on certain points of the body - magnetotherapy. This approach turned out to be in demand at large industrial enterprises, and Magnetix began to conclude the first contracts. However, unexpectedly, the future oligarch's attention was drawn to securities, and he switched to the stock market.
Thus, in 1992 Dmitry Rybolovlev received Certificate of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation for operations with securitiesAfter that he immediately set up an investment brokerage company "Incombrock.", and in the same year became president of the investment company "Financial House.". According to the businessman's confession, it was on the stock market that he received his first big profits. And since the era of privatization began in the country, he was one of the few in Perm who was ready for it.
By analyzing the market and investing in those companies that looked most promising, Rybolovlev and his partner Vladimir Shevtsov gradually focused on chemical industries. According to Dmitry Rybolovlev's confession, it came out by accident, and he did not choose to specialize in potash. As a result, in 1994 he became a member of the board of directors of Russia's largest producer of potash fertilizers OJSC Uralkali. Two years later, he took over as chairman of the boards of the same company.
The next stage in Uralkali's development was the selection of the best export partners. Since MKK provided the company with completely unfavorable conditions for the export of products, Rybolovlev broke off cooperation with it and turned to Western organizations: Canpotex and the Swiss intermediary Bermont Trading SA. After working with them for three years Uralkali decided to export on its own, rejecting the services of these firms.
In August 2005, following the conclusion of a contract between "Uralkali. and the government of Belarus on the participation of the company in OJSC "Belarusian Potash Company" (BPC), the company purchased 50% shares of the joint stock company and Rybolovlev was elected Chairman of its Supervisory Board. As a result, Uralkali and "Belaruskali. one of the world's largest potash suppliers was created.
At the moment, Dmitry Rybolovlev is no longer involved in the management of Uralkali, and there are also reports in the media that Rybolovlev has completely sold his stake in the company. The businessman is married, has two daughters, and the family lives in Switzerland. His hobby is skiing.
