3.8 million tourists visited the Philippines in 2011
The Philippine Department of Tourism predicts that the number of tourists in 2012 will increase by 13%.
The successful business is attributed to an increase in the flow of tourists from Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Russia, South Korea and Japan. Hong Kong, despite the hostage-taking incident in August 2010, has been one of the biggest sources of tourists this year, the department said. In order to continue the campaign to attract tourists from Hong Kong, the Ministry of Tourism has launched an aggressive marketing and advertising campaign in the country.
Russia and South Korea also have great potential for growth, and the U.S. is still the mainstay of the Philippine tourism market. Japan has been slow to enter the market because of the disasters that befell it.
The growth rate of vacationers over the past 10 months was 12%. In July alone, 360,784 tourists arrived in the country, while February saw the highest growth rate of 18.5%.
