Obama supporters raised $181 million in September
The total amount of donations to the incumbent's campaign is $947 million, and members of the Democratic National Committee believe the amount of money raised could exceed $1 billion. These figures were released on the eve of the president's visit to Los Angeles for fundraisers and concerts featuring Stevie Wonder and other performers. Campaign manager Jim Messin said 1.8 million people donated an average of $53 each in September, including 567,000 citizens who did so for the first time. Since April 2011, when the race started, 3,922,420 people have donated to the Democratic Party account.
The Romney campaign headquarters did not publish fundraising figures for September, but by the end of August, the Republican National Committee reported that $669 million had been raised.
On Sunday, about 6,000 Obama supporters will attend a concert at the Nokia Theatre called "30 Days to Victory. It will feature Jon Bon Jovi, Earth Wind and Fire, Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson. On Monday, the President will travel to San Francisco for fundraising events.
