A SUMMARY OF THE BOOK ON THE PRECONDITIONS OF THE CRISIS
In their book, New York University economics professor Nouriel Roubini and economic historian Stephen Meem argue convincingly that crises should not be considered a unique phenomenon of financial history: they are characterized by a certain probability, predictability, and have well-defined causes.
Combining historical and global economic analysis, the authors conclude that the financial crises of the last quarter of the 20th century in Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, and Argentina, as well as the Great Depression, have much in common with recession 2008-2009.
Using lessons from the past, recent crisis experience, and theoretical context, the authors show how to recognize the signs of instability in the global financial system, confront it, identify its weaknesses, discover channels for the global spread of problems, and anticipate possible developments. Particularly valuable are the findings on how crises can be anticipated, prevented, survived and dealt with.
The book has long been at the top of authoritative book rankings The New York Times. For economists and financiers interested in problems of the world economy.
