Stock selection on Tokyo Stock Exchange is enormous - about 2,500 companies are listed on it, including global giants such as Honda, Toyota, Sony, Casio, etc., as well as Japan's largest banks and financial corporations. In terms of capitalization and profitability Tokyo Stock Exchange is second only to the New York Stock Exchange.
Shares of companies traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange are divided into three categories:
- Shares of companies with the highest capitalization are practically blue chips;
- Shares of mid-tier companies;
- Mothers are stocks of new but fast-growing companies.
Tokyo Stock Exchange Stock Indices
As with every Stock Exchange, Tokyo forms its main indices - NIKKEI and TOPIX:
– NIKKEI stock index is calculated since 1970, earlier it was called TSE Adjusted Stock Price Average, calculations were made by the Japanese newspaper Nihon Keizai Shimbun, the abbreviated name of which gave the index its name. NIKKEI Index displays the dynamics of 225 selected companies traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
– TOPIX Index is calculated by the TSE itself. The data is updated every 15 seconds.
