Trading robot algorithm

The robot is fully automatic. For the settings traders are offered very few parameters. Basically, these are ATR indicator periods and settings Money Management. According to the author, all the calculations for opening trades occur on the hourly timeframe, while the trade itself is conducted on the minute charts.

During testing, the experts of ForTrader.org found out that the Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 Expert Advisor opens a trade by simultaneously placing three limit orders the same direction. Stop Loss is available, its level for all four positions is the same. When a new signal appears, the previous orders are not deleted, but are added to the existing ones. The entire volume of trades is closed simultaneously when a certain profit level is reached, all idle orders are deleted. This approach determines the weak point of the Expert Advisor right away - the lack of money in the account to maintain the floating loss for a large amount of open trades. Nevertheless, nothing of the kind has happened during testing over the last year.

Testing the Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 Expert Advisor

To work, as usual, we have a real trading account on 1000$ with a leverage of 1:100. We are not expecting much activity from the EA given the results of testing, so this should be enough. We will be trading with 0.01 lots. Money Management is implemented in our EA and we can try to experiment with risk and indicator parameters but for real trading we will prefer stability as always.

  • Company: RVD Markets
  • Terminal: MetaTrader 4
  • Deposit: 1000$
  • Type of account: real
  • Currency pairs: EURUSD
  • Timeframe: M1, H1
  • Working hours of the expert: 24 hours a day
  • Type: commercial
  • Start of testing: 24.02.2015

The parameters of the Expert Advisor are generally intuitive, so we will not describe them separately. We will only give an example of the standard values recommended by the author (see Fig. 1).

Testing the Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 Expert Advisor

Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 Expert Advisor works exclusively on the EURUSD currency pair. Of course, the possibility that it may give positive results on other symbols exists, and the author acknowledges this. Nevertheless, there have been no such cases so far, so we are going to use only EURUSD. As a test period we will use the last year, or rather the quotes from 01.01.14 up to now (24.02.15). Lot 0.01, fixed. We will use the standard set provided by the author as a base.

Given the decently large number of trades, the test can be considered relevant. The graph is steadily growing upwards. Maximum drawdown acceptable. The profits are very good, considering the trading of one pair with a fixed lot. Note right away that the average profit trade is much smaller than the average loss trade, which is not very good for the trading strategy. However, the impressive difference in continuous gains and losses makes up for this disadvantage of the Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 robot.

Optimizing the Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 Expert Advisor

Quite often 85% profits for a year seem too small a percentage to traders. There were a lot of questions to the author in the discussion thread about the robot. The answer was the same: "Optimize! Here is an example of one such optimization that has increased the profitability of the Expert Advisor in 50%. Parameters for testing are the same but the set is different.

  • Maximum drawdown: 467.87 (29.85%)

Let's put it this way, the profitability has grown clearly at the expense of the growth of risks. We have seen a significant increase in drawdown, decrease of profitability per trade and deterioration of win/loss ratio. At the same time stop loss has been moved back a lot in this set, which is also unfavorable for the future results of the Expert Advisor. In general, as usual, we are for conservatism and saving money, so we choose the first option of settings.

On the whole, from Abi new TMA Flet+Trend v1 we are waiting for stability and results of conservative trading. If within half a year it gives profit at least in 50%, testing can be called successful.
